2016 Newark Festival Announced

3 Day Line Up For 2016!

Fake Friday! 80's Saturday! Swing Sunday!

Riverside Park, Newark Castle Newark

Friday 17 Saturday 18 Sunday 19 June 2016

Newark Festival is back for the 5th year running, offering a fantastic line up with something for everyone. The now well established three day festival at the Riverside Park in view of Newark Castle, presents as its highlight a strong 80's Night featuring Spandau Ballet's own Tony Hadley, ABC, Bananarama and Midge Ure on Saturday 18th June 2016.

Tony Hadley said, "This is the 5th year of the Newark Festival and I am delighted to be performing. The location is beautiful with the backdrop of Newark Castle and the crowd are a lively bunch I am told!"

Friday 17th June is Fake Friday and if you love Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys then you need to buy a ticket to the best party in town with The Bon Jovi Experience, The Four Fighters, The Fillers and Antarctic Monkeys who will be performing all their biggest hits.

And Sunday sees the return of the ever growing Free Family Day at Riverside Park and across the town, with a day full of entertainment, food and drink for all the family and the evening becoming a more musical 'Swing In The Park' Concert.

Promoter Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE from LHG Live commented:

"I'm delighted to announce our 5th festival so early for everyone in Newark and surrounding areas. It means people this year will be able to buy tickets as Christmas presents which is what we've been asked for more recently and to help further we've also brought back the Early Bird discounted ticket price to help people book early. The feedback we have had over previous years has been fantastic and people have thoroughly enjoyed the Festival, with some truly iconic artists visiting the town. We've particularly been asked for another big 80's line up – so we've delivered it! These artists are all great live and it's fantastic we can bring them to Newark for the 2016 Festival.

Fake Friday is all about having a party and dancing to the music of four of the biggest bands of recent times, playing THE key music that has shaped recent years. This year people know what Fake Friday is all about, a great party and great value for money.

With the Town Councils support it is also great to be able to offer a free day of family entertainment and fireworks again on Sunday. Having invested together heavily over the last 5 years in the festival's growth, with the more recent help of our sponsors of course, it is something that we are very proud of as a business operating in Newark.

We are already talking to a number of local businesses, who have seen the benefits to other companies of being involved in the festival and I really hope the festival will continue to gain and grow local business support. Barcode Warehouse are leading the way being the first confirmed Sponsor for 2016."

Councillor David Lloyd Newark Town Council said:

"I am delighted that the Newark Festival will take place for a fifth year and should now be seen as a permanent annual fixture. Along with other events in Newark, it is our aspiration to support and coordinate a programme of events from June to September so that people will know that there's something happening every day of every weekend and are drawn into the Town.

The Newark Festival, with its fantastic line-up of performers is the 'anchor' and highlight of this programme and enables us to market the Town to attract visitors who, in turn, spend in our shops, bars, restaurants and overnight accommodation. Our Town Centre is outstanding and we want more and more people to come and discover Newark and contribute to our economy.

I'm proud that we continue to provide a free day of family fun on the Sunday of the Festival. These events are just as much for local people as they are for visitors and it's especially important that we have family orientated events during the summer holidays.

I urge everyone to attend and enjoy the event across the weekend. The town truly comes alive. I'd also welcome all businesses and community events working with us to make Newark a constant summer of fun."

Martin Fry from ABC said, "ABC are really excited to perform in Newark at the Festival. This area always has audiences that know how to party and have a good time! Come and join us on June 18th!"

The real 80's Night is all about the hit songs that the audience will know and love. Tony Hadley will be performing those classic Spandau Ballet songs such as 'Lifeline', 'True' and of course, 'Gold'.

ABC will be performing songs from the seminal album Lexicon Of Love which many people voted as the best album of the decade … 'Tears are Not Enough', 'Poison Arrow', 'The Look Of Love' and 'All of My Heart' are all great examples.

Bananarama still hold their place in the Guinness Book of Records for the most charted hits by a female group. 'Robert De Niro's Waiting', 'Venus', 'Love In The First Degree' and 'I Heard A Rumour' will all ensure everyone's firmly singing along.

Midge Ure was in many bands, Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy and Visage but it is with Ultravox that many of his fans will remember him most. Midge has released many songs since and of course wrote and produced Band Aid " Do They Know Its Christmas" with Bob Geldof – rock royalty indeed!
