Liz Doogan Hobbs MBE came to her music career through world level sport and broadcast media. She was British Ski Racing Champion 7 times, European Champion before her 18th birthday and World Champion before her 21st. Liz went on to break the British European and World Speed Records and retired undefeated champion of the world! Liz was nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year Award, won the Sports Writers of the Year Award and most notably was awarded the MBE for Services to Sport.
Following her sporting career, Liz went from strength to strength. The sheer determination and commitment that brought her success proved invaluable when learning a new trade. She made the effortless transition onto the public stage where she became a familiar face, presenting a series of TV and radio programmes on BBC Radio 2, ITV and Sky Sports, culminating in her own show on YTV, Hobbs Choice.
After turning her hand to producing and directing TV and radio shows, Liz turned her entrepreneurial flair towards developing a management agency for sports personalities that went on to develop in theatre and television. The entertainment side of the business was launched almost 20 years ago and is today, the largest provider of concerts and events to sporting venues and events in the UK; creating a unique synergy between sport and entertainment.
Liz has always been keen to use her success to raise awareness for well-known Charities that are close to her heart. Liz is extremely proud to be Chair of the Pink Ribbon Ball, a position she has held for the past eight years. The charity, which funds groundbreaking research for Breast Cancer Campaign, this year, reached the huge milestone of raising over £2m since she took over as Chair!
2015 sees Liz Hobbs Group celebrating its 25th Anniversary year. The business continues to flourish, with Liz's passion and enthusiasm for both sport and entertainment showing no signs of slowing down. From growing her unique business, it is apparent that Liz is a strong advocate of investing in people. She loves to see her employees thrive on success and encourages an innovative working environment. Her future vision is to build an academy for young people, to train and develop them in the creative arts of event management and production, from sound and light engineering to stage and set design and artist liaison, the business is well positioned to realize Liz's ambition to help shape the events industry of the future.
The Newark based business has more recently taken the decision to expand its production facility and develop rehearsal space and the academy and is now set to move to larger premises in the area, to satisfy the substantial growth plans. By remaining in Newark the business has demonstrated how a truly national business can thrive and grow in the Midlands.
